Wykopaliska prowadzone tutaj od 1954 roku ujawniły zabytki w sztucznym kopcu o wysokości 12 m składającym się z siedmiu warstw stworzonych przez mieszkańców od 2300 p.n.e. do XVIII wieku, w tym Kasytów, Greków, Portugalczyków i Persów. Kiedyś miejsce to było stolicą Dilmunu. Od 2005 roku znajduje się na liście światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.
