Później wykorzystywano go także jako źródło pracy przymusowej, do osadzania Żydów, niemieckich i austriackich przestępców oraz cudzoziemców z krajów okupowanych przez Niemcy. Gdy 27 kwietnia 1945 roku wojska amerykańskie zbliżyły się do podobozu Dachau w Landsbergu, dowodzący oficer SS wydał rozkaz zamordowania 4000 więźniów. Okna i drzwi ich baraków zostały zabite gwoździami, a następnie budynki zostały oblane benzyną i podpalone. W dokumentacji obozowej odnotowano prawie 32 000 zgonów, ale całkowita liczba ofiar nie jest dokładnie znana.
